Joe Louie and his wife Jade Huang have a tea shop featuring traditional teas as well as boba or bubble tea drinks. Bubble or Boba Tea features chewy tapioca balls or pearls blended with tea, milk, or coffee.
The tasty concoction started in Taiwan in the 1980s. Today, there are hundreds of boba shops in Taiwan. The taste sensation migrated to Southern California in the 1990s and countries around the world.
Jade develops the recipes (and there are dozens of choices) and Joe is the official taster. The most popular menu item is brown sugar and boba milk with all of the ingredients fresh made at the tea shop, not prepackaged. Another popular menu item is coffee milk tea which is a well-known drink in Hong Kong.Photos
